INTECH automates Bolivian Mega Gas Field Compression Facility
INTECH Process Automation provided plant wide – Integrated Process Control and Safety system with an addressable Fire and Gas system for a multi-phase compression facility in Bolivia.
The client, a major global market leader in full service natural gas compression, required a standardized control and safety solution for a new compressor station for two fields near Tarija, Bolivia.
INTECH, as a certified System Integrator with Rockwell, provided a scalable and modular solution based on advanced process and safety control systems from Rockwell and addressable plant fire and gas system from Deteronics. The solution comprises a unique design with both traditional as well as Digital Foundation Fieldbus IOs, implemented using a common hardware platform ensuring highest availability and reliability with enhanced functionality while maintaining the plant’s existing control system design standards.
The system manages overall control and safety functions of the compression and the inlet facilities including safety monitoring, alarming and diagnostics, as well as data logging and trending of critical run-time data.
The hardware design, programming, procurement integration, implementation and testing of the fully redundant ControlLogix based process and AAdvance (SIL-3) based ESD system was handled by INTECH’s experienced engineering team.
The control system hardware comprised an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PAC in Hot Backup, with local I/O for compression and digital Foundation Field Bus Linking devices for inlet facilities on Fault Tolerant Device Level ring topology. Dedicated Fiber DLR is used for serial communication with 3rd part controllers and devices in the field.
The safety system comprised AADVANCE SIL 3 system in Hot Backup, with local I/O and SIL-3 certified relays for discrete field outputs.
The F&G system comprised dual Eagle Quantum controllers with independent addressable loops for each field, fully integrated with Plant ICSS through dual Modbus serial communication.
The two gas fields are provided with separate yet fully integrated PCS and PSS/FGS systems with common HMI platform built on Rockwell Plant PAx. The HMI comprised one engineering and two operator workstations with redundant PAS servers and FactoryTalk Historian Server along with Vantage Point EMI software enabling comprehensive view of system performance through intelligent dashboard reporting.
For this fast track project, standardization of the design/application and performing the design validation during design/implementation phases, helped reduce engineering time and costs and perform fully integrated test at INTECH’s integration center in Houston before shipment of the panels and automaton servers/workstations to the facility.
