Industry
Oil & Gas: Upstream
Facility
Holding an estimated 17 billion barrels of recoverable reserves, the field is classified as a super-giant and remains the country’s largest and most productive oil asset, playing a pivotal role in the nation’s long-term energy security and economic stability since the 1950s
Scope
Provision of 24 skids seamlessly integrated into 8 solar-powered unified chemical injection packages, end-to-end project management
Customer’s Question
With rising demand pushing the limits of existing capacity, the client undertook a field-wide expansion, adding multiple well pads to unlock new production. Yet growth at such scale brings its own set of risks that threaten production levels, compromise the quality of output, and put critical infrastructure at risk.
For the client, the most pressing challenge was corrosion. If left unchecked, it undermines the integrity of process equipment, leading to leaks, unplanned shutdowns, environmental harm, and even catastrophic failures that can cause billions of dollars in downstream losses.
To mitigate this risk, the client required a reliable packaged solution that not only delivers precise chemical dosing to protect infrastructure, safeguard output quality, and sustain production efficiency, but is also in line with their sustainability goals and ambition to achieve net-zero emissions.
Benefits Delivered
- Optimized for the client’s space constraints, 24 skids were seamlessly integrated into 8 unified turnkey chemical injection packages, delivering long-term corrosion protection, safeguarding process integrity, and preventing millions in maintenance and replacement costs.
- INTECH’s proactive, solution-driven engineering and agile project management minimized risks, eliminated rework, and reinforced client confidence through effective execution within scope and adaptive support beyond it.
- As part of an additional scope, INTECH assumed an EPC-like role to transform non-compliant third-party skids into fully integrated assets with expert troubleshooting, control logic corrections, and client-driven modifications, thereby reducing the client’s revenue losses, stranded investments, and safety risks.
- Provision of solar-powered CI systems with over two days of battery autonomy, enabling continuous performance in remote, off-grid sites.
Scope of work
INTECH’s scope of work included:
Provision of 24 skids seamlessly integrated into 8 solar-powered unified chemical injection packages: Design, engineering, testing, supply, and commissioning of 8 self-sustained injection systems, each comprising three integrated skids: corrosion inhibitor injection, transfer, and solar, combined into a single unified package to deliver reliable protection and ensure process integrity.
- Design Considerations: Zone-2 certified skids, designed for a 25-year lifecycle under design conditions.
- Logic Solver: A highly responsive, SIL-certified Honeywell Safety Manager with Universal Safety I/O, providing maximum architectural flexibility and minimizing the cost of ownership when safety is required at distributed locations.
- Tank Capacity: A 15 m³ chemical storage tank designed in compliance with API 650 standards, ensuring robust construction and safe storage of corrosion inhibitor chemicals.
- Injection Pumps: Highly reliable double-diaphragm injection pumps with up to 5 heads for precise and continuous multi-point injection.
- Transfer Pumps: Each package includes a duplex transfer-pump skid, tailored to customer requirements, to maintain stable tank levels for precise chemical injection, with full operational and maintenance access
- Power: Equipped with batteries sized to provide a minimum of 2 days of power without solar charging, it is designed to deliver functionality in remote areas with limited infrastructure.
- Instrumentation: Each package contains best-in-class field instruments, including 30 SIL-rated Honeywell SmartLine pressure transmitters and 2 redundant level transmitters, all HART-enabled for added digital intelligence, enabling smart monitoring, efficiency, and control.
End-to-end project management: Comprehensive EPC services tailored to customer goals, adaptable to evolving requirements, and delivered in close coordination with fabrication partners, while adhering to industry best practices for seamless and transparent project delivery within the defined timeline.

Execution Challenges & Resolutions
In the early stages of the project, INTECH assessed the client’s operational requirements and site-specific constraints, including aggressive timelines, limited space, ease of access, environmental conditions, absence of grid power requiring remote operability, maintenance needs, and flexibility for potential skid relocation with minimal future work. This approach enabled the INTECH team to carefully select best-in-class components and engineer them into three separate skids that together form a single unified package that can seamlessly integrate with the client’s operational architecture.

Challenge
Incomplete and inconsistent documentation
During the design phase, INTECH was tasked with delivering comprehensive design packages across all disciplines, supported by critical studies such as HAZOP, structural calculations, certifications, and reliability data. The process was challenged by documentation gaps arising from multi-stakeholder inputs and evolving client feedback, which had the potential to stall review cycles, extend approval timelines, and create risks of misalignment with project requirements.
Solution
Establishing project control at the outset
To prevent schedule slippage and unnecessary rework, INTECH’s engineering team took full ownership of the process. A structured Internal Disciplinary Check (IDC) framework was implemented, with in-house experts reviewing, correcting, and updating vendor submissions to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with client and international standards. This proactive approach kept the project aligned, shortened approval cycles, reduced risks of rework, and reinforced client confidence.

Challenge
Complexity of integrating multi-disciplinary systems
The complexity of integrating multi-disciplinary systems onto 24 compact, modular skids with tight tolerances and intricate layouts posed a significant challenge during fabrication & integration to execute within the defined timelines.
Solution
Overcoming execution challenges through dedicated experts
INTECH deployed a dedicated 6-member multidisciplinary team at the fabricator’s facility to provide hands-on support, resolve technical ambiguities, and ensure strict compliance with quality and safety standards. This enabled one-site resolution, accelerated fabrication and integration works, and kept the project on track with its delivery targets.

Challenge
Client’s ad-hoc requests
During the scheduled FAT, the client requested ad-hoc witnessing of pumps performance that had already undergone OEM functional testing across all skids. This increased the testing scope, strained available engineering and QC resources, and created potential schedule conflicts.
Solution
INTECH’s commitment to client-focused solutions
Being a client-first organization, INTECH fully addressed the client’s concerns by mobilizing additional resources, closely coordinating pump testing activities across all skids, and ensuring that the expanded FAT scope was completed without impacting the agreed schedule.

Additional scope: Commissioning of third part non-compliant skids
Challenge
Commissioning challenges with third-party non-compliant skids
Owing to its reputation for engineering excellence, INTECH was tasked with commissioning CI skids supplied by another party. These skids exhibited faulty wiring, malfunctioning annunciator panels, and logic errors that disrupted injection sequences and safety functions. The INTECH team faced the added challenge of working on skids they had not designed, requiring careful reverse engineering and adaptation to ensure seamless integration into the client’s operational ecosystem.
Solution
INTECH going the extra mile for client success
INTECH deployed its engineering and commissioning experts to analyze, troubleshoot, and rectify the skid issues. Faulty hardware was repaired, logic errors were corrected to ensure intended operational performance, and additional client-requested modifications, such as emergency pushbuttons, were integrated. The fully functional skids were then successfully commissioned and seamlessly integrated into the client’s operational infrastructure.
